Further frequently asked questions about our Fragrance Lamps and Lamp Fragrance can be found beneath this video.

Common Fragrance Lamp Questions

You only need to light the stone for 2-3 minutes before blowing the flame out. DO NOT attempt to put the crown on a lit lamp.

For the ultimate home scent experience, we recommend using your lamp for up to 45 minutes at a time. Any longer and this can cause issues with the wick/stone assembly which may have an impact on its ability to light again.

We recommend only using your lamp up to twice a day - with a 30 minute 'reset' between uses. To reset your lamp, simply apply the snuffer cap to re-prime the fragrance before lighting again.

If your stone and wick assembly is used exclusively with Ashleigh & Burwood Lamp Fragrance and the instructions are followed, then each wick should last for around 250 uses. If, however, you continue to have issues with your lamp not lighting, you can purchase additional large wicks and small wicks on our website.

If you know you won't be using your lamp for extended periods, it is best to pour any remaining unused fragrance back into the bottle using the provided funnel - to avoid fragrance evaporation. Leaving fragrance in the lamp when unused for a long time can cause fragrance to build up in the stone, making it difficult to light again.

As we are passionate about not testing our products on animals, we unfortunately cannot 100% say with certainty how our lamps and lamp fragrance will affect your individual pet/s. However with this being said, we haven't been made aware of any negative impact on cats, dogs and birds in particular - many of our own staff have cats and dogs and confidently use their lamps in the home with them present, with no adverse issues.

The way our lamps are designed is that they only require a small percentage of fragrance to give a very powerful scent - a percentage so small that we wouldn't expect there to be any negative impact, however we cannot say this with 100% certainty.

Our Lamp Fragrance base is made from Isopropyl alcohol and water, which is the main basis for most hand sanitisers - so if your pet is sensitive to this then we would recommend not using our Lamps in your home or at the very least, use these in a different room where they won't be.

We have had a number of our staff who have become pregnant and continued using our products with no untoward effects. However, as we cannot, and would not, test our products on animals or humans, we cannot say with certainty how expectant mothers might react to our products – for this reason, we would suggest anyone experiencing pregnancy check with their healthcare professional prior to using products in pregnancy.

With all this being said, our industry is incredibly strictly governed and certain ingredients are restricted or prohibited to ensure the safety of home fragrance products.

On top of this, we have added even stricter restrictions and prohibitions ourselves which go above and beyond our legal requirements. All of these measures ensure our products are as safe as can be for all of our customers to use.

We suggest filling your lamp so that it is 2/3rds full with fragrance. However, as it can be difficult to determine how full your lamp is due to their design, we suggest going on the basis of using the following amount of liquid if opening a new bottle:

To fill a LARGE lamp:

250ml bottle - use entire bottle
500ml bottle - use just over half of the bottle
1000ml bottle - use approx 1/3 of the bottle

To fill a SMALL lamp:

250ml bottle - use just over 1/2 of the bottle
500ml bottle - use approx 1/3 of the bottle
1000ml bottle - use approx 1/6 of the bottle

Typically, if the stone at the top of your lamp doesn't light, it means one of two things - fragrance isn't being delivered efficiently to the stone, or the stone itself has become clogged with fragrance. When not using your lamp, it is important that you cover the stone with the included silver/gold snuffer cap, to ensure the stone doesn't become clogged with fragrance.

If your stone is light grey and won't light, it's likely that fragrance hasn't been delivered to the stone efficiently. Ensure that the wick is submerged in the fragrance, and allow at least 30 minutes of 'prime time' with the snuffer cap on the stone before lighting this.

If your stone is dark grey/black in colour but will not light, it's likely that the stone has become clogged with fragrance, most likely because the snuffer cap was not put back on the lamp when not in use. Follow our instructions for cleaning your stone here.

If your wick/stone becomes damaged, your lamp will not work effectively, so we suggest fitting a new stone/wick assembly before using the lamp again.

Replacement wicks for both small and large lamps can be purchased from our website.

It's likely that the lamp has been blown out too soon before the stone has reached its optimal working temperature. Put the snuffer cap back on the stone and leave for 30 minutes to re-prime. When lighting the stone again, keep it burning for a full 2-3 minutes before blowing it out. If this still does not work, follow our instructions for cleaning your stone.

This is most probably because the collar of the stone/wick assembly is not fully inserted into your Lamp, and the fragrance is slowly evaporating. This can also happen if the snuffer cap is not fully pushed down to cover the stone.

Replace the stone/wick assembly, ensuring the collar is fully inserted into the neck and the snuffer cap is snugly fitted to the stone and fully pushed down.

Common Lamp Fragrance Questions

The basis of the Lamp Fragrance, and the important fuel which keeps the catalytic process working, is an alcohol called isopropyl alcohol. A very common alcohol, it is the same form of alcohol which is commonly used in hand sanitisers for example. The other ingredients are distilled water, and the fragrance compound itself.

No. The terminology used here is very important when determining what liquid goes with what vessel. Lamp Fragrance is sold in 250ml, 500ml and select 1000ml bottles and are ONLY to be used with our Fragrance Lamps.

Fragrance Oil on the other hand, is specifically designed to be used with our Oil Burners only. Fragrance Oil is not suitable or effective if used with our Fragrance Lamps or in our Reed Diffusers.

No. Our Lamp Fragrances are specifically developed by Ashleigh & Burwood to work efficiently with our Fragrance Lamps. Using other types of fragrance such as diffuser liquid or fragrance oils could be dangerous and will damage the wick and stone assembly.

When the Lamp is used in accordance with the instructions, the amount of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) released into the air is well within the safe limits for adults, children and pets.

The majority of the IPA is burned during the catalytic combustion process which breaks it down into simply water and carbon dioxide, and the remaining IPA that is released into the air diffuses very rapidly.

The OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) limit for exposure to IPA is an airborne concentration of 400ppm (parts per million). Using a large Fragrance Lamp for the recommended 30 min period, in an average sized room, results in an airborne concentration of IPA around 19ppm, assuming zero airflow.

Allowing for normal household conditions with a small airflow, the concentration will be even lower than this.

Our main range of Lamp Fragrances use a blend of natural, nature identical and plant extracts as components.

Our typical fragrance composition is similar in style to most high-end designer perfumes for example, or many of the well-known high-end designer candle brands.

None of our fragrances are tested on animals, and we are wholeheartedly against testing products on animals.

Our Aromatherapy Lamp Fragrances use only 100% pure essential oils as the fragrance component.

Yes, all of our Lamp Fragrances are designed to mix together, should you wish to create your own bespoke scent.

Please do not use water to dilute a Lamp Fragrance that is too strong.

Our Neutral Lamp Fragrance is specifically designed for this purpose. Simply add some of this fragrance to the lamp, which will help dilute the strength of the main fragrance.
